description
This is a rare gem of a holiday destination - an enchanting, 15th century castle that transports you back in time. Located in the middle of a charming, medieval village of just 10 houses, the castle is surrounded by fields and rolling hills and is only 15km inland from the pristine beaches along the Costa Brava.
The entire castle is available to our guests and as it measures more than 1350 m2, the place is spacious enough to accommodate up to 20 people. Inside these ancient walls lies a world of luxury and comfort, designed and furnished in a tasteful and opulent manner. Each of the 10 bedrooms (2 of which are suites with a fireplace) has a private bath (with a hairdryer), of which 7 have a tub, 3 have a shower and 2 have a separate toilet. There are two double rooms and 8 twin rooms that can, however, be set up as doubles. In addition, 4 of the rooms also have their own, private dressing room. Each bedroom has its own TV. Furthermore, there is an enormous hall that still features the original ceiling panelling and has been converted into a living room with a variety of seating areas and a fireplace. There is another living room on the third floor, and the castle also features a spacious games room and a spectacular, circular dining hall. The bright and modern kitchen lies adjacent to the dining hall and is fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, electric kettle, toaster, washing machine and dryer.
In front of the castle, carefully shielded from prying eyes, lies a large terrace with a porch and comfortable, outdoor sofas, garden furniture, a BBQ/grill and a small swimming pool (6 x 4m). The sweeping entrance area features a typical, Spanish patio that serves as a welcome refuge from the summer heat. The price also includes daily room service from 9 am to 1pm. The castle's property management is also more than happy to organise all kinds of events and catering, including cocktail parties and weddings for up to 60 people.
This villa has a swimming pool. 15 km from the beach!
location: Sant Mori
Sant Mori is a small town featuring the stone houses that are typical of this region. The castle stands in the middle of the town, which also has a bar and a small store. The town hosts a market every Tuesday – an event that should not be missed! The closest large supermarket is located in l'Escala (15km), which is also where you can find some beautiful beaches. Another town well worth a visit is St. Martí d’Empuries; a picturesque, medieval village located right next to a stunning beach of white sand. Furthermore, the beaches at Roses, l’Escala and Begur offer visitors a wide range of water sports. Other recommendable daytrips include visits to Girona (30km), famous for its impressive old town and Jewish district, and Figueres (18km), home to the Dali Museum.
The Sant Mori Castle is a wonderful, 3-story building originally constructed during the gothic period. Over the course of the centuries, the castle has been expanded and modified on several occasions. The building experienced its last significant structural change at the beginning of the 20th century. The castle has several traditional embrasures that have been converted into unusual and charming windows. The large hall that now serves as a comfortably furnished living room has a perfectly preserved original, wooden ceiling. The castle is even featured in history books, because it served as residence to Queen Joanna of Aragón in the year 1466. This is where she summoned the parliament on October 15th of that same year. The queen's former bedroom is now suite number 3, which has its own fireplace and a lot of character. In short, this is a one of a kind place for a one of a kind holiday!
